Choosing Childcare
How can I make sure I get good quality childcare?
Sheringham works closely with a network of childminders and early years settings on the following shared commitment: we try to do everything we can to make sure that each child and each family has a high-quality experience.
If you want any practical guidance to help you make your choice, then you may find this information from the Family and Childcare Trust useful. You are also very welcome to contact the centre and make an appointment with a member of staff.
How can I reduce my childcare bills?
Jobcentre Plus advisers can also offer plenty of help and support. If you need financial support they can explain which benefits are available to you.
If you need childcare but are worried you can’t afford it, help is at hand.
If you participate in a Work Preparation Support scheme offered by Jobcentre Plus, they may offer up to £175 per week for 1 child and up to £300 per week for 2 or more children to cover registered childcare costs while you attend interviews or approved training.
Other sources of support with childcare costs from Jobcentre Plus may include:
- Childcare Assist- covers childcare costs for any 5-day period in the week before you start work
- Childcare Subsidy- childcare payments for up to one-year, for those who are returning to work for less than 16 hours per week
- Replacement Care funds- covers childcare costs for disabled children that exceed other Jobcentre Plus support described above
Early learning and childcare options
At Sheringham Nursery School, we offer 15 hours of free early education and childcare for children aged 3 and 4 years old, and for 2-year olds who are eligible for a free place. We offer morning places and afternoon places during school termtime – and it’s all free.
To apply for a place, just drop into the centre any day between 8.30am and 4.30pm. Alternatively, you can fill out a waiting list form and use the camera on your phone to send it back to info@sheringham.nur-newham.sch.uk.

More than 15 hours
If you need more than 15 hours then you might want to have a blended childcare place. Blended childcare means you buy extra hours of childcare around your free 15-hour place.
If you need flexible childcare that fits around your child’s nursery place, why not use one of our network childminders? Our network childminders work closely with the centre and offer a highly professional, high-quality service. They can drop your child off in nursery, pick your child up at the end, giving you all the additional hours you need.

The early years settings work closely with the centre and offer high quality early education and care with an Ofsted rating of “Good” or better.
